On way to Artic, Cornwallis Island 1947, 1st trip to pole
Harold Hogge

Here is a photo taken by Kenneth Lane in the Antarctic, 1962-63. Thom
Schinkel painted the Steddy Eddy flag.  Thom was a SN at that time, but left the Navy
as DM2.

Behind table left to right: first man is unknown since it is the back of his
head, next is Capt. (Commander) E. A. Davidson, then ENS Lyman Smith. The
other 2 we aren't certain, but Thom thinks they might be LCDR W. H. Goforth and
LTJG W. P. Flaherty.

CAPTION:

Lyman Smith, and two others unknown. Steddy Eddy flag by Thom Schinkel. Photo by

"Anyone recognize this photo???  It was taken on our trip north in 1960 when we had to go to the rescue of the USS Glacier when they ran aground in Sondestrom Greenland.  I think we were still in Thule when this was taken." Jim Nelson

,enlisted mens club -Nofork, Virginia 1961
We just left Boston-stopped off at Nofork so the captain could pick up the ship's "operational orders". (the particular captain was relieved of his duties when we arrived in Panama
I do know left to right is Gerald Downs- myself- don't know 3rd person-hostess-George Green (he also had a brother on board-both worked in the ships laundry- and I believe this fellow was Ross?

" USS EDISTO (AGB-2) a.k.a. USCGC EDISTO (WAGB-284)
Service to her country completed she sits at the dock in Baltimore, MD, her engines silenced, her crew members long since gone.  Obtained by the Boston Metals Company of Baltimore, MD 29 SEP 77 she waits to be purchased by the Union Minerals Company of Carey, New Jersey.  They in turn will scrap her -- but she will continue to live on, taking on new identity in the forms and shapes that are molded from her molten flesh!  Good-bye dear lady - we are all the better for having been a part of you!  We shall NEVER forget!  "  timpancake@hotmail.com

This is a picture I took of CGC Edisto, when we rendezvoused at Ocean Station Charlie with the CGC Duane WHEC-33 as the EDDIE was on her way to the Greenland coast. One look I was glad to be on a 327. The Edisto was rolling worst than a bathtub. Time was Feb 71........JIM Orrock          Sent any return mail to mst1orrock@hotmail.com Use this address please, the above I can not recieve mail
